As I mentioned in my last post, Battletech holds a dear place in my hobby heart. I remember doing odd jobs when I was 12-13 to scrounge the money to buy the starter box:</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQJx3h_oRICJ4-x6xLezWOBgEla4myRQ0pADpHkWozNEmIBaSPXtQXJKoWT3qt3XjGd0if4hlb2rXN-nMGh_zdT_RgDfiA4AHMCxue9mxl-borkFceDNH5DEzuhwFTRpY_K6ZxM-cbQqg/s277/1985+starter.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="277" data-original-width="210" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQJx3h_oRICJ4-x6xLezWOBgEla4myRQ0pADpHkWozNEmIBaSPXtQXJKoWT3qt3XjGd0if4hlb2rXN-nMGh_zdT_RgDfiA4AHMCxue9mxl-borkFceDNH5DEzuhwFTRpY_K6ZxM-cbQqg/w303-h400/1985+starter.jpg" width="303" /></a></div><br /> Funny story about that. Despite being release in 1985 I first saw this back in 1988 when I was 12 and fell in love with the box art and the description of the game. When I finally had enough cash (I want to say it was $20?) the local store was sold out!! With no online shopping options for a 12 year old in 1988 I instead turned to the only other box they had:<p></p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgraxvopQcbbO6iAQsZHeJ9sWxHvdHI0Mz5-I3pJ6umlUg2SYrzRQsiP1fn_94W-4GEYAg_8OPLiK5Pec47lflhBYqBF20VHGAPIIt8f3f4-q9ayhbVdB8sHmUDZrO0GCEyAKM5M4yEukc/s263/1986+Citytech.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="263" data-original-width="210" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgraxvopQcbbO6iAQsZHeJ9sWxHvdHI0Mz5-I3pJ6umlUg2SYrzRQsiP1fn_94W-4GEYAg_8OPLiK5Pec47lflhBYqBF20VHGAPIIt8f3f4-q9ayhbVdB8sHmUDZrO0GCEyAKM5M4yEukc/w319-h400/1986+Citytech.jpg" width="319" /></a></div><p>I still have Citytech to this day. But Kickstarter has changed it. In the past year Catalyst Game Labs has "re-released" Battletech and I joined in day 1 of the Kickstarter despite having not played the game in a long, long time. I received the Battletech Kickstarter just over a year ago (I know, grey plastic shame on me!) but decided to wait until the Clan Invasion (Wave 2) came out this year to open it all up and paint it. Here is what I accomplished:</p><p>20 Inner Sphere Mechs painted</p><p>12 Clan Mechs w/ 2 stands of Elementals.</p><p>I am awaiting Wave 2.5 which will basically see my forces double with the addition of all new mechs for both sides! Until then here are some sample pictures of how I painted them all up.</p><p>The "core" generic mechs for the Inner Sphere have been painted up as the 8th Lyran Regulars (House Steiner) with 2 lances painted up in Guard colors:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQwVHr-tQW1PzDH-eLoo7L4FQOgPvSWlNx2Ksgam-Jbr1sjLP7AQ2s_Jt4tWMflAHh2W4JwArXMs7pMlNt57LEoircZSZU1H9Ji9rMKukt9W3bKFcm6J3C5g7p40CbO03y67LRxKZCybA/s2048/IMG-6190.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQwVHr-tQW1PzDH-eLoo7L4FQOgPvSWlNx2Ksgam-Jbr1sjLP7AQ2s_Jt4tWMflAHh2W4JwArXMs7pMlNt57LEoircZSZU1H9Ji9rMKukt9W3bKFcm6J3C5g7p40CbO03y67LRxKZCybA/w640-h480/IMG-6190.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">8th Lyran Regular Marauder and Urbanmech</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiONYhySc6Hpe6CjB-esZhVBvCJlj9MahN46tVun9rziJEwNBfydA5ISksjhzUozNRSaoZ-_xIeMnyN-35l7fBL-PTbYq-ZtCjH2TaadXngP9PToTPFh4LKaGUSOR2Et8fSyHKPQVe3UZ8/s2048/IMG-6191.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiONYhySc6Hpe6CjB-esZhVBvCJlj9MahN46tVun9rziJEwNBfydA5ISksjhzUozNRSaoZ-_xIeMnyN-35l7fBL-PTbYq-ZtCjH2TaadXngP9PToTPFh4LKaGUSOR2Et8fSyHKPQVe3UZ8/w640-h480/IMG-6191.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Urbanmech</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHz_snXi0YMSh-ADTBGdqkIXBDOK4Dy-Rp1LT6I0219JfXoN_jhJ85zkvf751fsH0sPmYYiwCv2ZJZVQVHZsspoRiVN0Cj6GGA2B7HBAafze5y4V2XnYXw8uZP3KtQCe8VAlF7806Muc0/s2048/IMG-6192.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHz_snXi0YMSh-ADTBGdqkIXBDOK4Dy-Rp1LT6I0219JfXoN_jhJ85zkvf751fsH0sPmYYiwCv2ZJZVQVHZsspoRiVN0Cj6GGA2B7HBAafze5y4V2XnYXw8uZP3KtQCe8VAlF7806Muc0/w640-h480/IMG-6192.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Marauder</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyIlaNebVzdnnxcFj_CqNjlF93ORYm3UJmH_s56VAc3x93l1l29t8p5rpWGGZMYcaFFPaxF8ZscKs7T4ic0A3aCVD2HdnEmuoLcMAIyH1Veghp54fgjpIdWvcNOEZEtIyy9c2QgSmx9as/s2048/IMG-6193.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyIlaNebVzdnnxcFj_CqNjlF93ORYm3UJmH_s56VAc3x93l1l29t8p5rpWGGZMYcaFFPaxF8ZscKs7T4ic0A3aCVD2HdnEmuoLcMAIyH1Veghp54fgjpIdWvcNOEZEtIyy9c2QgSmx9as/w640-h480/IMG-6193.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Lyran Donegal Guards Battle Lance</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">For the Clan side I went with my personal favorite clan - Clan Ghost Bear!</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKBMS6jvI-6nYT3WSEUCBtOpz3ruRmqN0FPyY__P-jUywVZqoPXBVORL444Q8ys5QyyYkhtjt39JOp_XirE2bH7MUat7e42i2OZIBeVrAyE3IsR3vJR0f2hDHplj6iHha9KL2toBPOR_s/s2048/IMG-6194.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKBMS6jvI-6nYT3WSEUCBtOpz3ruRmqN0FPyY__P-jUywVZqoPXBVORL444Q8ys5QyyYkhtjt39JOp_XirE2bH7MUat7e42i2OZIBeVrAyE3IsR3vJR0f2hDHplj6iHha9KL2toBPOR_s/w640-h480/IMG-6194.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Clan Ghost Bear Heavy Striker Star</div><br /><div style="text-align: left;">I planned to do some insignia work but found a spot online that sells scale decals for all the different units in the Battletech universe so I will be ordering those. So I will start assembly now, in the hopes to start putting some paint to plastic over the Christmas holidays.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Stay tuned for some more Battletech distraction along with more Games Workshop and Star Wars Legion content!</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Cheers,</div><div style="text-align: left;">Ca$h</div><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>CA$Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00437309239840643398noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6707682564395774073.post-15090601456372447982020-11-30T15:17:00.007-05:002020-11-30T15:19:33.472-05:00Blood Angels Arrive<p> This post is basically a photo dump of the Space Marine half of the Indomitus boxed set. Yes, it was a $200CAD whim but the amount of new models inside was simply too good to pass on despite the fact I haven't played 40k in years. </p><p>What is inside?</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiowGtjMlS9T-xcXVOoQX7o1fTcT21biQ4ja-hybqo7jRsZsAFaqyzC3bmcp57brUJvULLraLQ8-DKJt9zcOYjR4juwGUFf6-NpDdrY7uio5tk8mhlZflsmcCdfDLhvfBjqjKUmUbC-bfE/s1000/Indomitus+Box.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="565" data-original-width="1000" height="362" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiowGtjMlS9T-xcXVOoQX7o1fTcT21biQ4ja-hybqo7jRsZsAFaqyzC3bmcp57brUJvULLraLQ8-DKJt9zcOYjR4juwGUFf6-NpDdrY7uio5tk8mhlZflsmcCdfDLhvfBjqjKUmUbC-bfE/w640-h362/Indomitus+Box.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div><br /></div><a href="https://www.warhammer-community.com/2020/06/13/warhammer-40000-preview-whats-in-the-boxgw-homepage-post-1/" target="_blank">GW Site showing all the contents</a><div><br /></div><div>As you can see, that is a ton of models for $200! I didn't really have any plans for the Space Marines but the Necrons really caught my eye. More so, they caught my 8yr old sons eye. He was VERY excited to see them assembled and ready to play with so I obliged him. Truthfully is doesn't take much to encourage me in the hobby space these days haha!</div><div><br /></div><div>So we started with Necrons! I build and painted a quick table-ready scheme based on his input. He chose all the colors and basing. He has been painting Stormcast for Age of Sigmar but wanted me to do it so "they look great on the table against your army dad" - so I got started. </div><div><br /></div><div>He wanted them to look "new" like they are just being built and deployed for battle. He know the lore to the extent that they are like zombies/undead and rise up on planets but wanted his to be like they were found in a warehouse or factory. I think it was a neat idea and helped with his color choices - blue, silver, and purple. I also wanted something I could get finished quickly but still look decent on the table. This whole force took me a week - from sprue to varnish! With his input as to what colors he wanted (and where!) we ended up with this:</div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhy03QCsfM16s2vfzGzjy8kM0zov7Ybx3BPGhrumCqp7dpm-u3X3sEc4jozbQdYkwpM6sRZmeo7TvtmuaVOkjCm1Tj8GfeY6qOxlNNndWgkzq_u6chCb6uZBdopTUeKIZEHcyFLB4slw2k/s2048/IMG_6149.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; Seeing that the Necron force is roughly 1000pts, I wanted to build and paint a current force of models to the 1000pt mark to get us playing. So may as well use the models I already own! If you check out our newly started YouTube channel (link is in the menu along the top of this site!) you will see we have several more (and much shorter) battle reports of us learning Star Wars Legion. I have plans to also start streaming Age of Sigmar and Warhammer 40k. </p><p>I hope you enjoy.</p><p>Ca$h</p></div>CA$Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00437309239840643398noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6707682564395774073.post-89799025681834978282020-10-29T08:57:00.000-04:002020-10-29T08:57:29.401-04:00AT-ST and on to some 40k!<p> In an effort to complete the models I already own, I have finally completed the AT-ST for my Star Wars Legion Imperial forces. I think I picked this up when it first released back in 2018? For $55 it was a steal of a kit and I am so happy to see it finally completed. Here are a couple pictures:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMvTwlBZbJXn8V-SWtyjrn9sslkKwwWnIwULLImuWtT4OcL8Up_AD5ghJQWbgYeO81_yDqllQkHLJIOslwU9yJClsK14923gMYsxpwyTWSrPaUKF0Ti4LgVuFoIpNZj_JBhwAxukw4Duw/s2048/IMG-6136.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMvTwlBZbJXn8V-SWtyjrn9sslkKwwWnIwULLImuWtT4OcL8Up_AD5ghJQWbgYeO81_yDqllQkHLJIOslwU9yJClsK14923gMYsxpwyTWSrPaUKF0Ti4LgVuFoIpNZj_JBhwAxukw4Duw/w640-h480/IMG-6136.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjm-vORw1nqBNx4_6_t2NCRbXr52i7ZhS9wTsNVxB5P4niqkfSrJBu8ebZmXW9IFPKh8ke51RQopgkfhrX9qG5Yr-DPSVeO5IZFjIqLITEE0fxKCYoEkZb1X-WTGbuy7WoftOfN9gpA0jE/s2048/IMG-6137.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjm-vORw1nqBNx4_6_t2NCRbXr52i7ZhS9wTsNVxB5P4niqkfSrJBu8ebZmXW9IFPKh8ke51RQopgkfhrX9qG5Yr-DPSVeO5IZFjIqLITEE0fxKCYoEkZb1X-WTGbuy7WoftOfN9gpA0jE/w640-h480/IMG-6137.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p>I tried to keep it simple. By that I mean when I went looking at pictures of the AT-ST from Return of the Jedi I noticed it was basically all grey - the guns, the hull, the hoses even. It was all very matt, dull and singularly toned. Attempting to recreate that definitely makes it look a little "bland" in miniature form but I feel it conveys the purely utilitarian approach the regular Imperial forces take. I can't wait to get it on the table!</p><p>With the AT-ST complete I have ordered the last remaining unit(s) I need for my Imperials - Shoretroopers. They have been out of stock for a long while, months I was told by my FLGS so I ordered a couple boxes off amazon. Until they arrive I have also started on the Necron half of the 40k Indomitus special release boxed set for 9th edition. My son loves the look of all the killer robots and is keen to learn how to play 40k with them. </p><p>The plan for now is to get that Necron force painted up and to start playing small skirmish games with him to re-learn the 40k game myself. The Necrons in the box total around a 1000 points so its a perfect size starter army for him - and me! I am still unsure what I will do with the Space Marine half. Being all new releases, I am tempted to start a whole new marine force, but I also kinda want to start something new and different for 40k 9th edition. I already have 2000+ points of Emperor's Children Chaos marines so a second marine army doesn't seem to be as exciting despite how amazing the new models are. We shall see what I decide but for now, Necrons are calling. Once I complete the Necrons I will probably swap back to the the two units of Shoretroopers just to get all the Legion stuff completed so stay tuned to see where my hobby journey this year takes me!</p><p>Of note, we are putting out live streams roughly once a week on the Dice Devils YouTube channel linked above so please go check it out and let us know how we are doing. We are improving our equipment and layouts for the games each week and really enjoying it. So far it is just Star Wars Legion but it will expand to include whatever I am playing - perhaps even small learning games with my son!?</p><p>Cheers,</p><p>Ca$h</p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>CA$Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00437309239840643398noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6707682564395774073.post-24295144221065432532020-10-19T19:55:00.004-04:002020-10-19T19:55:43.078-04:00More Star Wars Legion<p> I managed to finish up some more Star War Legion this past week or so. Matty and I have been getting games in a couple days a week and I have been painting up furiously to get new Imperial units on the table. I have added 3 new units and a smattering of characters to my force and I wanted to update you all with some pictures.</p><p>Before I start posting beauty shots, I also wanted to note that we have built a Dice Devils YouTube channel and are starting to try our hand at live streaming our games. This will improve over time as I get better cameras, set ups, overlays etc. so please bear with us while we learn. I have added a direct link to the menu bar across the top. For now the channel has a few of our recent Star Wars Legion games but the plan is to include any/all systems I play - mainly AoS (Age of Sigmar) and 40K along with Legion.</p><p>Here are the units I have completed in the past 2 weeks:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; I have ordered 100 x 32mm bases for all infantry and need to move the Obliterators onto 50mm bases. Once they arrive I plan to use my airbrush to paint them all uniformly and then move the models onto them.</p><p style="text-align: left;">All told the army is still easily a 2000pt force but I do have more models that I never completed and I managed to find them all. This list of unpainted Chaos Marines includes a Chaos Lord, 5 Chaos Space Marines, a Helbrute, 10 Noise Marines (all sonic) and a Chaos Havoc Squad with 4 Blastmasters.</p><p style="text-align: left;">I am not sure what from this list I will work on as I plan to play a few small games first to see what tactical holes need filling. I have also enjoyed a couple of 500pt Star Wars Legion games recently that have encouraged me to look deeper into that game after an almost 2 year hiatus so you may see some Legion content soon!</p><p style="text-align: left;">Until next time,</p><p style="text-align: left;">Ca$h out!</p><p style="text-align: left;"><br /></p></div>CA$Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00437309239840643398noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6707682564395774073.post-18489385481615066922020-09-11T10:00:00.003-04:002020-09-11T10:10:18.396-04:00Starting to learn 40k 9th Edition<p> I know this is a bit of a surprise considering all the painting and hobby time I am putting into my Seraphon for AoS but I recently received an invitation to try out the new release of Warhammer 40,000 (40K). I jumped at the chance to hang out, have a beer or two, and try a new system that is getting a lot of hype online. I pulled out my old (and shockingly badly painted) Chaos Marines and headed out the door!</p><p>My CSM are actually Emperors Children - the first founding legion devoted to Slaanesh. For the uninitiated Slaanesh is the Chaos God of Excess (be that pain or pleasure). A local fellow gamer dad invited me over to his place to play a socially distanced and mask wearing small game of 500pts. The list I took was the following:</p><ul style="border-width: 0px; caret-color: rgb(68, 68, 68); font-family: sans-serif; font-size: 12px; list-style: outside none none; margin: 0px 0px 0px 16px; padding: 0px;"><li class="force" style="border-width: 0px; Richard advanced with everyone, took some shots at my Sonic Dreadnought with his Suppressors dealing 2 wounds to him, and not much else. My returning fire was devastating. As you can see above I was able to delete one whole unit of Assault Intercessors heading for the ruined dreadnought objective. I then used the stratagem "Endless Cacophony" to allow my Sonic Dreadnought to fire a second time! He removed 2 of the 3 Suppressors that posed the biggest threat to his armor. Things were looking good for Chaos. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtrYnq9d4IH-Up_rTPdYAVVS0bIUZY7tJT19OnFPoJu2jj4KAgmErbtD1SlotoXtvLMlnUDnXF_WusALaAnhVa58ERkZ9v9ObXyyOklc-cvRJtLmtWiTJ48Vip0aX0VwtrnjjXjjrOTp0/s2048/IMG-6028.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="469" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtrYnq9d4IH-Up_rTPdYAVVS0bIUZY7tJT19OnFPoJu2jj4KAgmErbtD1SlotoXtvLMlnUDnXF_WusALaAnhVa58ERkZ9v9ObXyyOklc-cvRJtLmtWiTJ48Vip0aX0VwtrnjjXjjrOTp0/w625-h469/IMG-6028.jpg" width="625" /></a></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;">I did intend to take pictures each turn but as usual I got caught up in the game and chatting with Richard so I only managed to take a picture at the start of turn 3. Turn two was VERY bloody for both of us. His Lieutenant and Blade Guard moved in and assaulted both my CSM and Noise Marine units heading towards the dreadnought objective. My turn saw me continuing to have very effective shooting which removed the Blade Guard unit and a couple of the Assault Intercessors closest to me. My MVP, the Sonic Dreadnought then charged and killed the remaining Assault Intercessors leaving Richard with 1 Suppressor and his Lieutenant.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Turn 3 saw him charge my Sorcerer, easily killing him, and consolidating into my single remaining Noise Marine unit at the bottom of the board. On my turn I fell back with the Noise Marines (to keep them alive!) and sent my Sonic Dreadnought at his Lieutenant. Between his shooting and melee (after making the charge!) I was just able to kill the Lieutenant by one single failed armor save! We called it there as he only had the one Suppressor remaining. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">My closing thoughts: First off Richard is a great opponent and a lot of fun to play against. I think we both like the cinematic feel the game can present and we both just want to have a good time throwing dice. Thanks again Richard! Secondly I really like how the game plays now compared to how it used to. It has the same game round sequence as AoS now, so it felt quite familiar right out of the gate. I definitely plan to play again soon and will do another recap for sure. We chatted about potentially starting a narrative "Crusade" series of games out of the new rule book and that looks to be fun as damage and casualties etc can carry over from game to game and your characters can gain warlord traits, units gain experience etc. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">After I get some more Seraphon completed (Stegadon #2 will be done by the end of next week!) I will take a short break from them to re-base and touch up my Emperors Children as I already have a full 2000pt force that's assembled and painted. I still have the Indomitus box sitting unopened with what looks to be about 1000 points of both Necrons and Space Marines that I will ponder what to do with.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Until then - Ca$h out!</div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div><br /></div>CA$Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00437309239840643398noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6707682564395774073.post-30410755904768094292020-09-02T10:54:00.000-04:002020-09-02T10:54:01.627-04:001 done, 1 to go!<p> I completed the first of two Stegadons! That is to say, I have been out enjoying as much time as possible up at our trailer on the lake, so painting has slide some. Couple that with my airbrush breaking (irreparable) and it has impacted the amount of hobby I have achieved in the last month. I have managed to get some things done though!</p><p>First up I finished the "crew" for both the regular stegadon and the Engine of the Gods version:</p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEir7xp2Rh17vZGhWtO0SrXqN2vhOTsbUqbyu85K4HD0VReJmWmbwdt7o8y08S9ii1dUFilm0hd6D7D6LPzWLFEDPIfgeBdsjYduwwQOHIrs_uivPyz3wzArZAU3BuyQ0dPsRZZ_NYJbvbQ/s640/IMG_5969.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEir7xp2Rh17vZGhWtO0SrXqN2vhOTsbUqbyu85K4HD0VReJmWmbwdt7o8y08S9ii1dUFilm0hd6D7D6LPzWLFEDPIfgeBdsjYduwwQOHIrs_uivPyz3wzArZAU3BuyQ0dPsRZZ_NYJbvbQ/s0/IMG_5969.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDPgVYf45I8MgEGArwYe-Ke63eE1ocP5CNpHz2ZQO3ZOyW0-jXFfT2zjjWnakEaoIDDLVFwOslcaCwyBFlUGc0Ok0v_1P35B5yY5_IlE53tubelo7mRUu70WyMedKEal-L5w85iD_ASHQ/s640/IMG_5970.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDPgVYf45I8MgEGArwYe-Ke63eE1ocP5CNpHz2ZQO3ZOyW0-jXFfT2zjjWnakEaoIDDLVFwOslcaCwyBFlUGc0Ok0v_1P35B5yY5_IlE53tubelo7mRUu70WyMedKEal-L5w85iD_ASHQ/s0/IMG_5970.jpg" /></a></div><p>They follow the same paint scheme I've been using for regular, champion and priest skinks - yellow, blue and orange respectively. I guess I'm still caught in the old school lore of specific spawning pools growing specific role based skinks. </p><p>I do plan to buy a new Iwata airbrush soon, but I did some digging and found an old Paasche airbrush I bought at least 8+ years ago and NEVER used! It's an entry level but great quality so I figured "Why not?" and busted it out to start on the first stegadon:</p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUXgBkGRHRohILRoc0qjD0P9fmKrb4X3n9ERqJGY4S29XfjDF6qUxzaDwUhx8DISg42M5rsGjbq6Bs12292kp6cY5rToLlwDUBSG-auPXWml8r4I4jZ5xqTRhw0EgrUmn3ipAi4yeirQY/s640/IMG_5971.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUXgBkGRHRohILRoc0qjD0P9fmKrb4X3n9ERqJGY4S29XfjDF6qUxzaDwUhx8DISg42M5rsGjbq6Bs12292kp6cY5rToLlwDUBSG-auPXWml8r4I4jZ5xqTRhw0EgrUmn3ipAi4yeirQY/s0/IMG_5971.jpg" /></a></div><p>It offers surprisingly great control and fine spray lines! I know the picture isn't the best but there was literally zero over spray! I didn't mask any of the areas an was able to get the base colors down just fine! It's easy to clean, but I am not a fan of the under mount reservoir. I prefer the top down models. This will get me through for now and allow some time to really research and choose the best new airbrush for my needs. </p><p>I plan to keep working on this purple/green stegadon over the next week or two and finish it up before moving on to the next one. This will be the regular skystreak bow stegadon. I'm excited get one on the table soon! </p><p>-Ca$h</p>CA$Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00437309239840643398noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6707682564395774073.post-70245745522926344802020-07-21T10:26:00.002-04:002020-07-21T10:28:34.395-04:00Stegadons Work in ProgressGood day all!<br />
<br />
This will be a short update on the pair of Stegadons I am working on. It has been a busy July and with the great weather I haven't been spending much time working on models in my basement. I have build two Stegadons. One is the base behemoth with the Skystreak Bow and the other is the Engine of the Gods.<br />
<br />
I have focused on getting the skinks done first as my old, well used, and cheap airbrush finally packed it in so I want to wait until I pick up a new one for the beasts themselves. So here is where I am:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfbvv7tVkdy0dHX4F7AKQ9EbFRtjQM2ftDp1CKqgoBoyD_mNUTuIrnJzTKEK-tWY8DWIxtVcha0V6stpsVQma54HdEazsNx1qLVRuTNQ-pVWZL9khE-STPXuNcEgHcHUNnH7xKvvb7_3Y/s1600/IMG-5941.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfbvv7tVkdy0dHX4F7AKQ9EbFRtjQM2ftDp1CKqgoBoyD_mNUTuIrnJzTKEK-tWY8DWIxtVcha0V6stpsVQma54HdEazsNx1qLVRuTNQ-pVWZL9khE-STPXuNcEgHcHUNnH7xKvvb7_3Y/s640/IMG-5941.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I have added a small piece of paper clip to one foot on each skink to allow me to pin them down to the Stegadon howdah once they are painted. This also allows me to pin them to small pieces of trim to spray and paint them in batches. I will complete these skinks this week, and move on to the Stegadons and howdahs next week.<br />
<br />
Here is the a picture of the zenithal primed Stegadons awaiting the airbrush:<br />
<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You can expect an update early next week with the completed skink "crew" along with any more work I manage to get done on the Stegadons themselves.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Work on the army is slowing down over summer as I expected it would, but I will keep getting small achievable steps completed and the army will continue to grow. I really am still enjoying the building and painting of this army. I am also excited for the resumption of in-person gaming and having many many games to learn how to play these guys effectively!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Thanks for following my progress - stay cool out there!</div>

This is just a quick update as I have been busy on a short family vacation and work. I have completed a small unit of Chameleon Skinks. These came in the large lot I picked up and had base coats already done so I just finished the job - highlights, shading, touch-ups and basing etc:<br />

<br />
They are a little shiny due to the fact I ran out of Testors Dull Coat. Once I pick up another can it will dull them down nicely like the rest of the army.<br />
<br />
On deck next are a pair (yes two!) Stegadons! I expect to be posting some work in progress pictures and updates next week so look forward to that.<br />
<br />
Cheers,<br />

This is just a quick update as to what I accomplished this past week. I assembled and painted up 3 Hunting Packs of Salamanders. I even got to test them out in a quick 500pt game against a buddy (he was playing Stormcast) and they performed pretty well. They managed to shoot and charge a unit of 5 Sequitors and wiped them off the board.<br />
<br />
The next round they died very quickly to his Celestar Ballista. It fired 4 shots (Rapid fire 18") and he got lucky - all 4 hit, doing 4D6 wounds! Suffice to say that -2 rend and so many hits dropped by Salamander unit down to 2 models, that he then charged and removed off the table hah! Not really a fair trade in points but for the first showing of the Salamanders I can't complain. Hopefully we will get a chance to video the next small game and I can start uploading more content that way too.<br />
<br />
Here are models I completed this week:<br />

Of note I completed the first of 3 Slann I will eventually paint. For now, with the smaller games we play, 1 Slann is more then enough! Here is a nice picture of him :<br />

<br />
<br />
I also picked up two huge lots of models from a friend who is moving and needed to decrease his piles of plastic shame in his closets. Seraphon and Ogor Mawtribes!<br />
<br />
<br />
Skip on after the break for some more pics and a list of what I got:<br />

<br />
<br />
I think he turned out well for a generic approach to coloring. I plan to make my second one more red based.<br />
<br />
Let's move on to the huge lots I picked up. First, here is a quick picture of my attempts at organizing the models.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifYljMxO3TFc8td5iSyZp8L3-wU3iovQ5kQvtR0n7wIz2-uNoBTIyXdwgg1vEGTaYcPfVDuF0wBr3m7e8xomd4prramiETvcKfM2fhcwGS7ZQmxxB2Mp2KfQmSC4Wtu-YK26pbrJelgGI/s1600/IMG-5872.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifYljMxO3TFc8td5iSyZp8L3-wU3iovQ5kQvtR0n7wIz2-uNoBTIyXdwgg1vEGTaYcPfVDuF0wBr3m7e8xomd4prramiETvcKfM2fhcwGS7ZQmxxB2Mp2KfQmSC4Wtu-YK26pbrJelgGI/s640/IMG-5872.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
As can be seen, there are loads of loose older models, assembled current models and loads and loads of sprue. Here is a brief list of what I picked up:<br />
<br />
Seraphon:<br />
<br />
A Start Collecting Box,<br />
15 assorted plastic skinks<br />
3 skink priests/heroes in pewter (current sculpts)<br />
Astrolith bearer (in resin)<br />
Chameleon skinks x10 (in pewter, but current sculpts)<br />
Eternity warden (in resin)<br />
Old metal Kroxigors x6<br />
Old metal Terradon Riders x3<br />
Old metal Kroq-gar<br />
2 current plastic Stegadons<br />
3 salamander (current sculpt, but metal)<br />
40 saurus warriors (in addition to the ones in the start collecting box)<br />
25-30 temple guard (current plastic kits)<br />
Old metal stegadon,<br />
Plastic Bastiladon<br />
2 metal Slann<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-xWe_MmqQTxkqZMHM9pL5GfGM3Gv6ukDRq3RyTL7b88ioki0xIskQgoZlB2Oo_QBOguOLms0I61G-KKfjkvSsmtH1ezWPEz18dh_rh497nPMhiZ3kiI69xv8eXGzzzcDXRJa7shq1uDY/s1600/IMG-5874.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-xWe_MmqQTxkqZMHM9pL5GfGM3Gv6ukDRq3RyTL7b88ioki0xIskQgoZlB2Oo_QBOguOLms0I61G-KKfjkvSsmtH1ezWPEz18dh_rh497nPMhiZ3kiI69xv8eXGzzzcDXRJa7shq1uDY/s640/IMG-5874.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Yes, all the parts and sprues to finish the Stegadon are present.</div>
<br />
All for $100!! Friend prices are the best!<br />
<br />
You may see some Stormcast in the pile - Those I picked up for another $100 to pass along to a coworker and friend who is looking to start out. For $100 he gets the Stormcast half of both 1st Edition AoS starter box and Soul Wars along with a full start collecting box. It's a ton of models and an awesome start for a new player - a whole 2000pt force (and then some!) for $100.<br />
<br />
<br />
I had to snag his Mawtribes as it was also a great deal and all current kits. They were a top 3 contender for the faction I would start into AoS with, so ogors will be my official second army once I have more Seraphon completed. They are elite and a much lower model count so should paint up fairly quickly and play very differently. As a side, Destruction as a whole is under represented around here so it's great to have an army of that Grand Alliance.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibPA-DLjawclULnx-6rcg_UnxoUaeOgUMeuRGbvXFgJhJnQzyjIt8U6MBbkg_WDDVP3m6H4YRpf2wwysey8kFuFunbke_rzfziytMszH_s-3wKG6ASwPDU7vg60_mpSO3hF1WDorBxjpk/s1600/IMG-5873.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibPA-DLjawclULnx-6rcg_UnxoUaeOgUMeuRGbvXFgJhJnQzyjIt8U6MBbkg_WDDVP3m6H4YRpf2wwysey8kFuFunbke_rzfziytMszH_s-3wKG6ASwPDU7vg60_mpSO3hF1WDorBxjpk/s640/IMG-5873.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Here is a list of the Ogors I now have (for $200) :<br />
<br />
Two Beastclaw Raider Start Collecting Boxes (with one Stonehorn built, but everything else on spruce, or NIB)<br />
6 Leadbelchers (guys with cannons)<br />
12 Ironguts<br />
6 Ogor Gluttons<br />
Feast of Bones Ogor half (Plastic Tyrant, 6 more Gluttons, Ironblaster war machine)<br />
2 metal Maneaters (one new in blister)<br />
A converted Firebelly<br />
Butcher (metal NIB)<br />
<br />
I can't wait to get stuck in - first up will be the Salamanders for my Seraphon as I don't have any yet and a unit of 3 is a perfect start!<br />
<br />
Until next time,<br />
Cheers!<br />

Looking over the models, it appeared that I had enough to put a small Age of Sigmar force together so I sourced some 25mm round bases for the 90+ infantry along with the correct oval cavalry bases from <a href="https://www.tabletopgamerstore.com/" target="_blank">Tabletop Game Store</a> online.<br />
<br />

<br />
Click on after the break for more pictures and what products I used to base them!<br />
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
<br />
They arrived in less than a week and I got straight to work cutting all those figures off their bases. Talk about a messy job! Inside of a week, I got a 1500pts army fully based and ready to go.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxf-uT6XU6XJP1yHQledF17HpNPurrhjQFveanCteGAhHGce5BJCPKwy2zDSNXpTyHjPBfNW_WZqu2ctVCKzf9044PLaEd4Qb9-v5usNmRRgjds0voU0oNyXEj030eHYskBoJpztjcVuY/s1600/IMG-5860.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxf-uT6XU6XJP1yHQledF17HpNPurrhjQFveanCteGAhHGce5BJCPKwy2zDSNXpTyHjPBfNW_WZqu2ctVCKzf9044PLaEd4Qb9-v5usNmRRgjds0voU0oNyXEj030eHYskBoJpztjcVuY/s640/IMG-5860.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I "cheated" a little using Vallejos Acrylic Light Brown Thick Mud to cover the whole base and then just used contrast paints and highlighting up to a classic green/yellow style to match the models vintage. I finished them off with some Army Painter Meadow Flowers tufts.<br />

<br />
I didn't paint the movement trays yet as I hope to use them for other units like skinks etc, so I am still pondering some neutral tones.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfSH61yZVP6Wz7nkZECDMzY6IZ1-Nh5t16BIIyaMpg082OAP6idJ2cwb5zr6gOuoBqADq6Au91xIlWWTPGVWQAQ6rd2n0cPTgvYNvB2mCShbPr5eTPFo99dYlxKaR0vI3ro1Yg59qmec8/s1600/IMG-5862.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfSH61yZVP6Wz7nkZECDMzY6IZ1-Nh5t16BIIyaMpg082OAP6idJ2cwb5zr6gOuoBqADq6Au91xIlWWTPGVWQAQ6rd2n0cPTgvYNvB2mCShbPr5eTPFo99dYlxKaR0vI3ro1Yg59qmec8/s640/IMG-5862.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I plan to use a couple of the human units as "counts as" units in my list. First, the 10 old Empire bowmen will be played as Shadowhunters, as they are ambushers with bow - a perfect fit I think and keeps the force all human. The knights will be "counts as" Drakespawn Knights, the heaviest armored knights aside from the Gryphchargers which are larger models and bases. I think it works and should be very clear to my opponents.<br />
<br />
At a minimum this will look like a cohesive force on the table - and I still have ~60 mixed infantry I could paint up to form a couple more units of hand gunners and Free Guild Guard if the desire hits me. There are also two Battlemages and a Free Guild General on foot to paint, but those should be a quick side project once I get more Seraphon done :)<br />
<br />
In other news I picked up a ton of models, well actually two full armies, from a friend who is moving and clearing house. Next weeks post will be a review of everything I got and my initial plans on what I will do with it all so stay tuned!<br />
<br />
Cheers,<br />

<br />
The kids are going to be starting work on the remaining units. Protectors, Retributors, and a Lord-Relictor still need to be painted up from the Start Collecting box we picked up. They are also having fun with paint schemes and colors with a unit of Sequitors and Castigators. All told we will have a 1000 point list ready to go in the next week or so and to celebrate we are going to have a game perhaps even record a simple battle report. The kids are keen to start a YouTube channel to track their work and games so we are floating ideas and names so stay tuned for more on that!<br />
<br />
I continue some work on my Seraphon, namely an old Slann I found super cheap on Ebay that I am going to "Ebay Rescue" and incorporate into my force. I still plan to pick up a Stegadon, some Kroxigors and Lord Kroak.<br />
<br />
I also came across my old Empire army from years back. Looking through the Cities of Sigmar book, I can easily build out a 1500 (all human) army. Aside from all the Freeguild infantry units, I plan to use the old Empire Knights as Drakespawn Knights as the stats and abilities line up perfectly. I will also do up a unit of 10 of the old Empire Huntsman (all armed with bows) as Shadow Warriors - sneaking in from ambush! I'm excited to see these units have a home on a battlefield again and my son is excited about all the Handgunners and Volley Guns!<br />
<br />
Until the next update - Keep on Hobbying!<br />
<br />
Cheers,<br />

The kids decided on that faction and I committed to assist with the assembly and some of the painting. Looking through the battletome they decided on the purple and gold of the Lions of Sigmar:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEevQaYXw-3IdAb5HScEheG_Qogbsg5fT1qUPKiZDp78ioNTH7o5QLFUdBLavF6ElWh5S73atjcQkO4alWA6qKpSJ4ATlnS5r5ZZbxl0y1civRm-zRT3cJ69g3akl1m3ut-jMLwgDmiDI/s1600/Lions_of_Sigmar.PNG.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="264" data-original-width="297" height="355" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEevQaYXw-3IdAb5HScEheG_Qogbsg5fT1qUPKiZDp78ioNTH7o5QLFUdBLavF6ElWh5S73atjcQkO4alWA6qKpSJ4ATlnS5r5ZZbxl0y1civRm-zRT3cJ69g3akl1m3ut-jMLwgDmiDI/s400/Lions_of_Sigmar.PNG.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So with this paint scheme chosen we set to work to put together a simple step by step for the kids to follow to achieve the desired look. I modified the belt/skirt area to make it black (to break up the gold better) and here is where we stand with 10 Liberators completed to a basic tabletop standard :</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSJqschwV71FMV2ru7y2kX9U55QNCYR4kiRZB2ZY9LB1n-j9pWxENRDXp-7rBpQwzIbac93IUV5-YbqITnNbZrM3qYMSDVoFvVigW9lEIx7Gtk-J0K1rfyxrYvfvEzGuHwc6771sq6qA4/s1600/IMG-5829.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSJqschwV71FMV2ru7y2kX9U55QNCYR4kiRZB2ZY9LB1n-j9pWxENRDXp-7rBpQwzIbac93IUV5-YbqITnNbZrM3qYMSDVoFvVigW9lEIx7Gtk-J0K1rfyxrYvfvEzGuHwc6771sq6qA4/s640/IMG-5829.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Click on past the break for a couple more pictures and our planned next steps!</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br />You will notice the colors are vibrant and there is minimal highlighting. The goal was to keep it simple and somewhat fast for 7 and 11 year old kids to replicate. Once requirement was some orange, so the weapon handles got that covered. I did the basing for them. You will see come plain gold models in the background which I sprayed a light gold to speed up the base coating. We haven't made a decision on the decals yet, whether to add them to the pauldrons or not.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The kids have already painted a unit of Sequitors, a Knight-Incantor and some Castigators from the small starter set they got last year where they went wild on colors. We have started with updating them to match the new Liberators - here is the Knight-Incantor who only needed the color changed from blue to purple to bring him in line :</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I tried a couple different methods to highlight up the purple but have yet to choose one the kids can do simply enough so for now it's just P3's "Beaten Purple". </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I will be posting more updates as work continues and hope to film a simple game/battle report this week to share on the blog too so keep a look out for that.</div>

This impacted my next purchases for my Seraphon as I wanted to pick up a Stegadon and Slann. With all the local (and some not so local) sold out and not able to restock, I have started to shift focus until I can order the kits I want. So what to work on next? Well, I started by following a tutorial on Lustria Online about how to kit bash an Astrolith Bearer out of the eft over parts from a Seraphon Start Collecting box. This is what I ended up with :<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuoxe6YKaU-9v7Rp8er10FVBGLxKCE7L76r_64EqVn26QWeDMZTGlKYUEZoaCsNGsqie2RnNfgiSCl9kVuOVW65agWc8mL_kxq4MY76CN3Ll83B8_kM3VtvkkEoHdUTn_srWFQCx3ELyw/s1600/IMG-5808.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuoxe6YKaU-9v7Rp8er10FVBGLxKCE7L76r_64EqVn26QWeDMZTGlKYUEZoaCsNGsqie2RnNfgiSCl9kVuOVW65agWc8mL_kxq4MY76CN3Ll83B8_kM3VtvkkEoHdUTn_srWFQCx3ELyw/s640/IMG-5808.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>

Here is the "real" Games Workshop resin kit :<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizl3ntS1Blx7cxRhXSMTg722txc3f6HBVnOs6NKMVnsDNigx-G-uT8NmMga4ZbPaUAGDWtlaYDpuTABQVD-MrPVbXMSD2kp-73H4q0acJvOZ9RANBxlmg39ujOwL02RCoK-beXhOdweoU/s1600/99810208026_SaurusAstrolithBearer01.webp" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="950" data-original-width="920" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizl3ntS1Blx7cxRhXSMTg722txc3f6HBVnOs6NKMVnsDNigx-G-uT8NmMga4ZbPaUAGDWtlaYDpuTABQVD-MrPVbXMSD2kp-73H4q0acJvOZ9RANBxlmg39ujOwL02RCoK-beXhOdweoU/s400/99810208026_SaurusAstrolithBearer01.webp" width="386" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
It uses only Games workshop parts - even the disc in the center is a trimmed GW base. I was lucky I had a spare 40mm base as he is a Hero and on the larger base. I think it turned out well and saves me $30 CAD!<br />
<br />
But with this now completed and ready for the Slann to come in the army, what else can I work on?<br />
Well my kids have really enjoyed our games and want to start another army that can be played against my new Seraphon. This is a great problem to have to ponder! What do I want from a second faction that will mainly be played by my kids and maybe a friend or two (if they want to try the game)? I decided to make a quick "Top 3" list of criteria for this second army:<br />
<br />
<br />
<b>Number 1</b><br />
Most important to me is the kids "like" the faction. They don't have to love it but they have to be excited to see them on the table. I also want an aesthetic the kids can help paint and not be too intricate or intimidating for my 7yr old son.<br />
<br />
<b>Number 2</b><br />
The second is definitely low model count! An elite army (low model requirement) should translate to me still having the bulk of my time to focus on my army, and also allow me to get another force painted up and on the table in a relatively short period. This second criteria also (usually) translates into a lower price point also as you are buying less model kits.<br />
<br />
<b>Number 3</b><br />
Lastly its got to be easy to play with. I am no longer a competitively focused player so neither of my forces are "competitive" in the tournament sense, but this will be the "beginners" army for my kids and other potential players. Ideally it will have straight forward rules, clear roles for each unit, and similar stats (warscrolls) throughout so its easier to remember what you are doing.<br />
<br />
Factoring in all these criteria we collectively landed on this :<br />

It just arrived in the mail from my local games store Out of the Box - Best games store in Ottawa! Dan is a great guy and is even offering flat rate shipping during this pandemic time. I buy all my hobby supplies and forces from him as I prefer to support local businesses and value what he is doing in the community. For $85 CAD it seems like a great deal as it's almost 900 points in one box! I will scour ebay for the final two Retributors we need to make a unit of five but this is the planned start to the 1000pt list:<br />

My kids! At 11 and 7, they are primed to enjoy the game now and honestly they are excited to try their wits against each other. Both have obviously been exposed to my longstanding table top gaming hobby so it comes as no surprise that as the self isolation and social distancing continue, they are more keen to try different things with their time. I am more than happy to oblige ;)<br />
<br />
But before we get to the game, I did finish another model this week :<br />

<br />
Another character completed! I am really looking forward to trying this little buy out on the table. The abilities this guy brings to the army are awesome. Chance to generate more command points each turn, buffing friendly units to have a chance to cause mortal wounds, and even a spell to give enemy units -1 to hit he has it all.<br />
<br />
But what about the game you ask? It pitted mirrored forces on a smaller board. Keeping it simple and balanced for the kids was essential so I elected to give them each the following forces:<br />
<br />
Skink Priest<br />
10 Saurus Warriors with clubs<br />
10 Skinks with Bonespitters<br />
5 Saurus Knights with lances.<br />
<br />
The scenario was a custom one - and very straight forward. They each were vying for control of the central Realmshaper Engine. The player that had the most models within 12" of the engine at the end of turn 3 (gotta keep the game quick and snappy!) wins.<br />
<br />
Here are a couple shots of the "Demons of Death" (Jensons force) against Londons "Skull Tribe" - I asked them to come up with names and I'm not sure where the names came from but that's how it goes in this house I suppose.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
Bottom of turn 3. Time to see who has the most models. Sadly the kids had already started cleaning up but the end was a difference of 1. 1 Saurus between them! London lost 2, Jenson only 1. So Jensons "Demons of Death" win the day!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The kids really enjoyed the game and we will be playing again soon so stay tuned for more. I think I will try to video the next one! This has also spawned a new project - a second faction so we can play games and not just do mirror matches! The debate rages as to what army that will be. I am leaving it up to the kids to agree on with my only stipulation being that it should be a more "elite" force with a lower model count so I won't be taking too much time away from my growing Seraphon. Expect the choice to be made in time for the next update!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Until then,</div>

Feeding off the story of how the "Old Ones" left temples behind when they departed the now dead Old World, the new Seraphon army terrain piece really ties the Lizard Old World lore into the updated Age of Sigmar lore for the Seraphon - and it has neat rules to boot!<br />
<br />
Coming in at 0 points, it's a "why not" addition to my army. By that I mean I can choose to play with it in some lists, and leave it out in others as my fancy takes me. It's the first time I've bought a model for an army that literally has zero points cost. It doesn't directly help me expand my army into higher point ranges but it definitely adds a coolness factor - both to the army and to any table I play on.<br />
<br />
So without further ado - here it is:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDKPB8Fh9ps2uURIh7e4uGibHQUAh0G_CHbui2tcLPdsndJjHnKK4taJqbMsHwy4TcFTxNe6zDheAr5OieWRI7JPfnodUGSU8y-Fnmm9XoaLY75htbQCxuyaPKPTT8OBCMN2yT9_oTvuw/s1600/IMG-5778.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDKPB8Fh9ps2uURIh7e4uGibHQUAh0G_CHbui2tcLPdsndJjHnKK4taJqbMsHwy4TcFTxNe6zDheAr5OieWRI7JPfnodUGSU8y-Fnmm9XoaLY75htbQCxuyaPKPTT8OBCMN2yT9_oTvuw/s640/IMG-5778.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My thoughts in the build and rules after the break!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
First off, the build. You can build it "new" or "old" I suppose you could say. The "new" is meant to represent the newly landing Starship Temples of the Seraphon descending into the Mortal Realms and being used by the Slann and Starpriests to summon new Seraphon into existence.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The "old", the one I built, is overgrown and aged. It represents previously landed ship/temples that have been slowly expanding the influence of the Seraphon. The new lore in the battletome hints at the Seraphon using their immense knowledge and power to actually begin terraforming the Mortal Realms to reflect the dense hot jungles the Seraphon prefer. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Because I am starting off as a Coalesced force it was a natural fit to build mine as overgrown with vines and plants. Coalesced are the Seraphon that were summoned into existence and continue to exist now as fully fleshed out beings in the Mortal Realms. Here is the vine detail on all 5 sides:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmJ2LcpxQds2uAXHP5gOR0euRcdbrhQmudl9SW9eLicHX1PVHu_Qw218Cw4hX41q9scOyAPJxL8MJTDZyO1dFE_h7I9asRRC0YlC4kn9rAptUEdo6rO24DM5ZS_zB0tLbgqbzv-XqyRc4/s1600/IMG-5779.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmJ2LcpxQds2uAXHP5gOR0euRcdbrhQmudl9SW9eLicHX1PVHu_Qw218Cw4hX41q9scOyAPJxL8MJTDZyO1dFE_h7I9asRRC0YlC4kn9rAptUEdo6rO24DM5ZS_zB0tLbgqbzv-XqyRc4/s640/IMG-5779.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I aged the bronze plates and snakes with GWs Nihilakh Oxide technical paint and I think it turned out well. The lightning crackling on top as my army either moves to defend it or focuses on wresting control of it back from the enemy. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As for the neat rules, it basically functions as a building that can garrison 20 wounds of models (no size restriction) and allows casters to choose another terrain piece anywhere on the table. All enemy units within 3" of the selected terrain takes D3 mortal wounds on a 4+. There are some ways to modify these rolls but that's the general idea. Pretty awesome for free right? Keep in mind anyone/anything can garrison inside of it! Also, it is deployed before players choose sides so I am not guaranteed to have it on my side of the table. This may be FAQ'd eventually but for the casual games I play, I don't mind at all.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So what's next? Well I only have a Starpriest to do now and all my models will be painted! I am so stoked about that. Upcoming purchases I plan to include are a Stegadon, Slann, Kroxigors and maybe a second Skink Start Collecting to expand my skinks, terradons and sneak in a second Bastilidon? Time will tell so check back for the coming painted Starpriest and to see what I purchase/paint next!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Cheers,</div>

By focusing even 30 minutes a day on something related to the force (building, basing, priming, painting etc) I have witnessed it grow steadily over the past couple months. It helps that we are still in COVID-19 lock down, but really I had already built the habit as a "new years goal" if you will and it's really bearing fruit.<br />

First up are my new Terradons swooping in to drop their deadly cargo:</div>

I again turned to my airbrush and used it to pretty decent effect in blending the Terradons from red to yellow. I am still undiminished in my enjoyment of painting bright vibrant colors. Here are some more close up shots of the Terradons:</div>

If they aren't enough for my opponents to worry about swooping 16" across the table each turn, I also finished my Bastilidon. Just based on their rules and the way the model looks I think this may be the first of a pair, but we'll see as I haven't even played a game with the army yet!</div>

The Solar Engine on its back was fun to paint up to look alien. It shares the details and characteristics of the Oldblood's Sunbolt Gauntlet - dare I say almost Necron? I love that the updated lore spells out how the Seraphon Slann actually did use the ziggurat structures as spaceships to flee the End Times of the Old World.</div>

3 skinks riding on top, the one in the rear actually using a biometrics like hand print "trigger" to fire the Solar Engine. Nine (9) shots at 24" doing 2 damage each with -1 rend!! Amazing! </div>

<div>
Next up in the queue is the second Carnosaur/Troglodon kit and what to build. Oracle on Troglodon or Saurus Scar-Veteran on Carnosaur. As I am planning my initial 2000 point force to be Coalesced and most likely based on Koatl's Claw, it will be heavy in Saurus warriors and knights. This is the best approached based on the models that come in the start collecting boxes I have so far. It also means that a Skink Oracle on Troglodon is a large points investment into something that doesn't have much synergy with the other units. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So I have decided to build and paint the last kit as a Scar-Veteran on Carnosaur. Two large T-Rex like monster models on the table? Oh yeaaaaaah! I think it will look awesome and will provide more flexibility and Saurus based command abilities for my army. So please check in next week as I have already started assembly and I plan to paint it completely differently then the Oldbloods Carnosaur I posted previously. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I am so happy I chose Seraphon as my faction for Age of Sigmar! I just hope they play as well as I think they look hahaha! Until next time...</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Cheers, </div>

Pandemic. Never thought I'd lead with that but we are all experiencing crazy times. I want to wish anyone reading this the best health, and I hope you and your family/loved ones are safe and in good health. The one upside of this "social distancing" and "stay home/stay safe" shutdown means I am working from home, and it affording me more time to focus on hobby time. This is significant for me as I have always turned to hobbies to reduce stress, clear my head and lower overall anxiety. There's always a silver lining....sometimes you just have to look harder for it.<br />
<br />
With all that said, here is were I am with the Seraphon army:<br />
<br />
Completed and Painted:<br />
<br />
15 Saurus Knights with Lances<br />
20 Saurus Warriors (23 total with 2nd full command) with clubs and shields<br />
20 Skinks with Boltspitters and shields<br />
1 Skink Priest<br />
1 Skink Starpriest<br />
1 Scar-Veteran on Cold One<br />
1 Oldblood on Carnosaur<br />
<br />
<br />
Did you notice the last entry?<br />

<br />
But that's not all! I managed to pick up the new Start Collecting Skinks box and the Realmshaper Engine terrain piece just before the shutdown was announced and I have managed to build the Terradons and the Bastilidon with the Solar Engine. I plan to paint those next while I ponder my original idea of using the second carnosaur kit to make a Skink Oracle on Troglodon. The Oracle was changed quite a bit in the battletome and is now the same points as a Slann! I am debating just making a Scar-Veteran on Carnosaur as I am focusing on the Coalesced Seraphon for my initial 2000pts so I'm not sure there is room for an Oracle when I could take a Slann and TWO carnosaurs. The debate rages in my head - a welcome distraction from everything else going on...<br />
<br />
Anyways, the next update will hopefully include pictures and updates around the Terradon unit and Bastilidon. Having moved to the airbrush for the larger models, I will be trying it out on them so we'll just have to see how things turn out.<br />
<br />
Until then, stay safe and healthy out there!<br />
<br />
Cheers,<br />
